Fellowship Program Description : The Toxikon Consortium is a multi-disciplinary collaboration of The Cook County Health and Hospitals System (Stroger Hospital), The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, The Illinois Poison Center, and Rush Medical University. This cooperation allows us to most efficiently utilize all of the toxicology resources within the City of Chicago and throughout the State of Illinois to take care of the poisoned patient. Our mission is to provide outstanding clinical care, education, and research regarding the poisoned patient.
Our two-year fellowship offers experience with daily rounds, weekly journal clubs, Wednesday outpatient toxicology clinic, Friday addiction medicine clinic, a 2 week inpatient addiction medicine experience in both years of fellowship, CQI projects, joint conferences with EMS, occupational medicine, and the other midwest toxicology programs, among many other activities. Tox call structure is graduated with primary call in the first year and a supervisory role in the second year. We accept 2 fellows per year. We also offer a 1 month rotation to medical students and residents so our toxicology group is large and diverse in faculty and learners. Located in Chicago, there is no shortage of activity here to make for a very enjoyable lifestyle.
