Fellowship Program Description : The Harvard Medical Toxicology fellowship training program at Boston Children’s Hospital is operated through the hospital’s Emergency Department, in cooperation with Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The Toxicology service is comprised of staff toxicologists, all of whom are jointly appointed by Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
The fellowship is two years in duration and is available to graduates of ACGME-approved residency programs primarily in Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine. Fellows see between 250-300 in-person consults between Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center. One of the many benefits of the fellowship training program is its close relationship with the MA/RI Poison Center which received 45,000 calls in 2025. Fellows participate in Toxicology consultations and admissions, daily poison center rounds, didactic seminars, research presentations, literature review, as well as statistical methods/research design and clinical management conferences. The fellow will also have extensive teaching opportunities throughout the hospital and other affiliated institutions. Throughout their tenure, fellows work closely with a diverse and experienced faculty with a range of research specialties, including pediatric toxicology, cardiovascular poisons, large databases, epidemiology, and environmental toxicology, among others.
