Mandi Sutphin presented findings from ToxIC’s FENTALOG Study, “Cardiac Arrest as an Indication for Naloxone after Illicit Opioid Overdose”.

ANTIDOTE Institute

Representatives from the ANTIDOTE Institute, including program co-chairs Peter Chai and Stephanie Carreiro and collaborators James Dear, Michael Eddleston and Charlotte Goldfine, attended the European Association of Poisons Centres and Clinical Toxicologists Congress to showcase their respective programs supporting the development of future leaders in medical toxicology research.

The ANTIDOTE Institute focuses on mentorship, career development, and research training for junior faculty and early-career investigators in medical toxicology, while the Global Research Academy for Clinical Toxicology (GRACT) supports the growth of clinical toxicology research capacity in low- and middle-income countries around the world.

RENDOR

Dr. Paul Wax presented findings from ToxIC’s RENDOR Project, delivering the talk, “Pre-EMS Naloxone Administration is Associated with a Reduced Likelihood of Receiving EMS Naloxone after Opioid Overdose”.

New ToxIC Publication: Comprehensive Toxicological Quantitation of Drugs Identified among Nonfatal Opioid and Stimulant Overdoses

A new study published in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology reports findings from 995 patients with suspected opioid or stimulant overdose enrolled across 17 U.S. emergency departments through the ToxIC Drug Toxico-Surveillance (DOTS) Reporting Program. Blood specimens underwent comprehensive toxicological analysis at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE), identifying 43 unique novel psychoactive substances, including several potent nitazene opioids. The study provides one of the first large-scale quantitative assessments of substances detected in nonfatal overdoses offering novel insight into the evolving overdose landscape.
